We are a family of four who have been living and traveling in our fifth wheel for five years now. We move once a month or more to a new location. So, with our more frequent movement we get asked all the time how do we socialize and how do the kids maintain friendships while we are on the road.

Our kids were only 1.5 and 3 when we started this lifestyle of full-time travel. They adapted so well and learned very quickly not to waste any time meeting new people. Honestly, we believe this lifestyle has made them more outgoing and has taught them to not be afraid to approach other kids to ask to play or become friends. They are the initiators, and we are so proud of the life skills they have developed.
As for Austin and I, I have always been very outgoing and love to talk to people and make friends. So, for us socialization comes very easy and naturally. At first, this lifestyle of full-time RV’ing we noticed most of the full-timers were all older and retired with no kids. But as we get into it more and when we choose to stay at the more kid-friendly campgrounds, we are starting to see more families enter this way of life.

Full-time RV’ing isn’t just for the retirees anymore. It’s for everyone. Younger couples just starting out. Older couples who are empty nesters and want to travel. Families who want more than just to be stationary in sticks and bricks and want to give their children a life of travel and experiences. It’s for all types of families, so the socialization is out there you just must be a little outgoing, wave at your campground neighbor, attend the campground meetups and make friends.
In our five years we have made friends all over the nation and some of which have become more like family than friends. We are grateful for this time in our lives and believe it is shaping us and our kids to be more outgoing, open-minded, and better human beings.
